American Amber Ale: Primary Activity – March 12, 2006

Visible activity was apparent within 12-18 hours. After that period, the airlock was bubbling at about 60-90 bubbles per minute. The aeration of the wort must have been perfect.

Procedure:

· Steeped grain for ~20 while water came up to 170 degrees F.

· Added Cascade hops* at 5 min

· Added Willamette hops at 55 min

Ingredients:

3.3 lbs Briess Golden Light Malt Extract

3 lbs Muntions Plain Amber DME

8 oz Breiss Crushed Crystal 20L Malt Grain

1 oz Willamette Hops (bittering)

1 oz Cascade Hops (finishing)

 

Original Gravities: 1.042 – 1.045

Final Gravities: 1.008 – 1.010

Kansas City Wheat Beer: First Taste – March 4, 2006

The beer tastes great. It has mellowed out quite a bit during the last week. The bitterness is just right. Before I told Doug which recipe that I made, he mentioned that it tasted a lot like Boulevard Wheat, a good sign.
