Good call. I noticed that with my dopplebock, I was really pleased with my wort flavor on that one. It stood out because I usually don't enjoy the wort.

I have always found that the mature beer tastes far, far better than the wort. This is what I was excited about. If this wort was pretty good, then the final product should be outstanding.

I have been tasting the wort for a while now and I have not been able to make the connection between what I taste there and what the final product tastes like. In fact, I have noticed that my first few beers from a young brew usually are reminiscent of the wort, whereas the last few taste more like a mature complete beer.
