Shake all of the ingredients over ice and pour into a chilled martini glass. In this version, tequila suplements the traditional light rum component and adds a lot of good flavor. I suppose that you could think of this as a cross between a daiquri and a margarita. Give is a try, or two. I haven’t seen this recipe in print before, so let me know how you like it. For the original recipe, replace the one part of tequila with one part light rum.

Simple sugar, sweet, and simple to make yourself. As you all well know, sugar doesn’t disolve well in cold solutions. To sweeten cocktails or ice tea, simple sugar is the easy solution.

Simple sugar is highly saturaged sugar solution. To make this stuff yourself, bring regular white sugar in water to a boil and then simer for three to five minutes. Boiling the sugar solution will break down the sugar molecules so that they are unable to recrystalize; the resulting syrup is far sweeter than the original sugar solution.

Simple Sugar

2 cups sugar
1 cup water

Add the sugar to the water and simmer for three to five minutes. As the solution comes to a boil, it will become transparent. Store this syrup in a cafe-style ketchup or mustard bottle for convenient dispensation. This is an ingredient in the real daiquri.

Soda Water

This cocktail was created in the spirit of the long island ice tea. The liquour combination generates a very strong drink without the bite normally assoicated with this much booze. If you don’t have soda water on hand, just use tap water (but not tonic water).

Add the tequila, rum, gin, tripple sec, and grenedine to a old fashioned glass with 3 ice cubes. Top off with soda water. Stir to perfection.
